Paulette Oboyski and Governor BaldacciGibbs wins Governor's Exemplary Service Award!  On Tuesday, Governor Baldacci honored the library with the Governor's Exemplary Service Award.  The award is presented every year to a non-profit organization that demonstrates extraordinary community service through volunteerism.  A special thank you to all the Gibbs Library volunteers for your dedication, time and talent.

Gibbs Library won the 2009 Non-Profit of the Year Award from the Union Area Chamber of Commerce!   Kudos to the dedicated group of volunteers who give tirelessly of their time and talents to make Gibbs Library a community treasure.

The library has an on-going used book sale in the town office lobby and in the Bryant Room.   Fiction, non-fiction, DVDs, audio tapes, CDs, videos - something for everyone! Select mint condition books, perfect enough for gifts, are also part of the sale.

Book Donations  - The library is always glad to have your book donations - whether used or new.  Please note that the library policy is that any book donated to the library, even new books, will be placed in the library collection at the discretion of the librarian.   Any donated books not added to the collection will be sold in the on-going book sale as part of the library fund-raising activities.   Used books should be gently used and not mildewed.  We cannot use books that are water damaged, heavily soiled, pages torn or marked (unless they are very recent textbooks).   If you have a lot of books and would like us to come and pick them up, we can do that, too.

Public Computers for your use are available at the library during regular library hours.  We have two Macs and two PCs - two printers, too.  You can use the internet connection, write a paper, do research or play games, etc.  To use a computer, just sign up at the library desk when you arrive.  We have headphones if you'd like to listen to music or play games.   The library also has Wi-Fi if you'd like to bring your laptop and use our wireless internet connection.

Can't find the book you want on the Gibbs shelves?   We participate in the statewide interlibrary loan program, so we can find the book you want anywhere in the state and have it sent to Gibbs for you. There is no cost for this service. You can also use the Maine State Library Books by Mail program - in this program you can request books directly on-line and have them mailed to your home.  You will have to pay return shipping, which is typically $2-$3, depending on weight. To use this program, you must first register - either on line or through the mail.  For details, call 1-800-762-7106.

For Sale, Fundraising:  Gibbs has baseball hats of many colors that have 04574 printed on the front - $20 a cap.  Our fund-raising also includes double-dipped chocolates ($1 a bag) and other assorted candies ($1 a bag).  Chocolates are at the front desk. And our very special Just Desserts cookbook ($5) with unique and delicious recipes from our local Washington cooks.
